After completing a technical illustration and design diploma. He worked in his field within the advertising arena doing art direction and design for many years. He also setup DTP studios for the agencies with the aim of training their Art Directors to use the medium properly. During this time he also completed various design projects and assisted Art Directors in various projects.

Gustave has been involved in the Internet since its commercial inception in South Africa. Initially (August 1995 to December 1996) he was the Marketing Manager for a company involved in distribution and resale of Internet software for UUNet. Managing the distribution and resale of Internet software gave him a sound technical understanding of the Internet and led to the authoring of two Internet training manuals.
